Dr. Lorna Lutz Heyge

Chairman and Founder
Having spent over 30 years working directly with young children and music teachers, the depth and breadth of Dr. Heyge’s understanding of how young children learn music is unparalleled. It was Dr. Heyge’s vision to found Musikgarten/ Music Matters in 1993/1994 to help bring the benefits of music education to all children.

Dr. Heyge is the coauthor and publisher of the Music and Movement series for Musikgarten and has written other early childhood publications including Kindermusik for the Young Child and Kindermusik Beginnings (used from 1974 – 1993), as well as Gemeinsam Musizieren (Making Music Together for Germany). Dr. Heyge is also president of the Foundation for Music-Based Learning and publisher of Early Childhood Connections: Journal of Music- and Movement-Based Learning. She holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music, Northwestern University, and the University of Cologne, Germany.

Audrey Sillick-co-author
Having worked with Dr. Heyge on numerous early childhood music education curricula, including coauthoring Kindermusik for the Young Child, Audrey Sillick brings to Musikgarten a lifetime of child development, music education and environmental awareness expertise. Audrey’s extensive knowledge of the role of movement in learning and the process of language acquisition helped build the foundation of the Musikgarten curricula. Ms. Sillick is a national speaker and workshop leader for music educators, Montessori educators and the Earth education movement. Additionally, she is the Founder and Director Emeritus of the Toronto Montessori Teacher Training Institute.
