Musikgarten
urges teachers to pursue certification not only for professional
development but also as a reference point for parents. Parents want
what's best for their children, but discriminating among available
music programs and evaluating whether the curriculum, instructors,
and facilities meet the highest standards can be difficult.
While certification is available through MENC (menc.org)
and MTNA (mtna.org),
the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association
(ECMMA) offers a certification
especially for early childhood music teachers. ECMMA offers three
levels of certification based on training, evaluations, and years
of teaching experience. Specific details required for such certification
can be obtained from the ECMMA Administrative Office (ecmma.org).
